IEEE Fellow Prof. Emil Jovanov,
University of Alabama in Huntsville, USA
Dr. Emil Jovanov is a Professor Emeritus in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at the University of Alabama in Huntsville. He received his Dipl. Ing. and M.S. degrees in Electrical Engineering, and Ph.D. in Computer Engineering from the University of Belgrade. He is recognized as the originator of the concept of wireless body area networks for health monitoring and is a leading researcher in wearable health monitoring and the Internet of Medical Things. Dr. Jovanov was elected IEEE Fellow for his contributions to wearable health monitoring systems and National Academy of Inventors (NAI) Fellow for pioneering work in wearable body area networks, mobile health, and innovative healthcare applications. He is a member of IEEE EMBS Technical Committee on Wearable Biomedical Sensors and Systems, and serves as Associate Editor of IEEE Transactions on Biomedical Engineering, IEEE Open Access Journal of Engineering in Medicine and Biology, and IEEE Journal of Biomedical and Health Informatics. He has published over 240 peer-reviewed papers, 20 book chapters, and holds 16 U.S. patents. Dr. Jovanov’s innovations, including smart sensing systems such as the smart pill bottle and smart hydration monitoring devices, have been commercialized and widely recognized, including the 2013 Healthcare Innovation World Cup and the 2014 Innovator of the Year Award. His research focuses on AI-enabled ubiquitous health monitoring and seamless integration of physiological sensing into everyday life. Dr. Jovanov is passionate about leveraging technology to enhance wellness and improve quality of life.
IEEE Fellow Prof. Simon Cotton,
Queen’s University Belfast, UK
Simon L. Cotton (Fellow, IEEE) received the Ph.D. degree in electrical and electronic engineering from Queen’s University Belfast, Belfast, U.K., in 2007.,From 2007 to 2011, he was a Research Fellow, then a Senior Research Fellow, from 2011 to 2012, a Lecturer (Assistant Professor), from 2012 to 2015, and a Reader (Associate Professor), from 2015 to 2019 at Queen’s University Belfast. He is currently a Full Professor and the Director of the Centre for Wireless Innovation (CWI), Queen’s University Belfast. He has authored and co-authored over 220 publications in major IEEE/IET journals and refereed international conferences, three book chapters, and two patents. Among his research interests are propagation measurements and statistical channel characterization. His other research interests include physical layer security, in particular, radio frequency fingerprinting and covert communications.,Prof. Cotton was awarded the H. A. Wheeler Prize in July 2010 by the IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society for the best applications journal article in IEEE Transactions on Antennas and Propagation since 2009. In July 2011, he was awarded the Sir George Macfarlane Award from U.K. Royal Academy of Engineering in recognition of his technical and scientific attainment since graduating with a first degree in engineering.
Prof. Andrea Ungar,
University of Florence, Italy
Professor Andrea Ungar graduated Magna cum Laude from the University of Florence, School of Medicine in Florence, Italy. He proceeded to complete his fellowships in Geriatrics and Cardiology in 1996 and 2000 respectively. After that, he completed his Ph.D. at the University of Florence in Clinical Physiopathology of Aging. In 2017, Professor Ungar became Associate Professor of Internal Medicine and Geriatrics. Professor Ungar currently serves as Director of the Geriatrics and Intensive Care Unit Hypertension Centre – Syncope Unit at the University of Florence and Azienda Ospedaliero Universitaria Careggi. He is an author of more than 300 publications and a member of several national and international research boards. Professor Ungar is a member of the Task Force for the European Society of Cardiology Guidelines on Syncope and President of the Gruppo Italiano Multidisciplinare sulla sincope (GIMSI) and Chief of Special Interest Group on Cardiovascular medicine of EUGMS.
